Conjunctiva

The conjunctiva is a thin vascular mucous layer that typically of glossy appearance. It shapes the conjunctiva sac together with the surface of the cornea. The bulbar conjunctiva is approximately joined to the sclera and is all the more firmly connected to the limbs of the cornea. There the conjunctiva epithelium wires with the corneal epithelium. The palpable conjunctiva lines the inward surface of the eyelid and is solidly appended to the bone structure. The free palpable conjunctiva frames an overlay in the conjunctiva fornix, where it joins the bulbar conjunctiva. A half-moon molded crease of mucous film, the plica semilunar is, is situated in the average corner of the palpable gap. This outskirts on the lacrimal caruncle, which contains hairs and sebaceous organs.
